Norfund, Norwegian Investment Fund for Developing Countries
Norfund – the Norwegian Investment Fund for Developing Countries – is owned by the Norwegian Government and serves as an instrument in Norwegian development policy. Norfund invests in the establishment and development of profitable and sustainable enterprises in developing countries. The aim is to contribute to economic growth and poverty reduction. Norfund always invest with partners, Norwegian or foreign, focusing on renewable energy, financial institutions and agribusiness. The main areas of investment are in Eastern and Southern Africa with offices located in Johannesburg and Nairobi. Additionally, Norfund invest in selected countries in Asia and Central America with a regional office in Bangkok and San Jose (Cost Rica). As of 30 June 2011, Norfund had a committed portfolio of about USD 1.3 billion and 47 employees.
