First avocado harvest has started in Tanzania

IMG_2476The first harvest at Africado has just started. Norfund invested in this plantation at the foot of Kilimanjaro in Tanzania in 2009.

The first trees of the plantation were planted in 2007 and after three years the first fruits are ready to be picked. Every tree is expected to last for about 30 years so this is only the first of many harvests to come.

The fruit will be shipped to Europe trough a South African company. Some of the fruits are also given to local orphanages as seen on the picture.
