BRAC is registered in Bangladesh under the societies Registration Act and operates as a non-government development organization (NGO). BRAC is one of the largest NGOs in the world and employs 42 thousand people on regular terms. BRAC works in more than 69 000 villages of Bangladesh covering more than 100 million poor people in the field of income generation, health care, population control, primary education for children and the like. BRAC carries out licensed banking activities through BRAC Bank Ltd.(BBL) and also earns from various income generating projects such as Aarong Rural Craft Centre, BRAC Printers, BRAC Dairy and Food project and BRAC Tea Estates. Last, but not the least, BRAC is one of the world’s largest microfinance institutions. Their micro-finance efforts have proved to be successful, and have promoted self-sufficiency within the poor communities in Bangladesh.
