CAL Bank commenced operations in 1990 and received its Universal Banking License in 2004 and soon commenced providing specialized retail banking services. Today CAL Bank provides a broad range of banking and financial solutions to large corporations, small and medium-sized enterprises, public sector institutions and retail customers through a network of 28 branches and over 100 ATMs across Ghana. Arise owns 27.7% of CAL Bank and is its second largest shareholder.

The Norfund loan forms part of Norfund's strategy to support the Arise banks with further funding. By supporting CAL Bank, a strong local player, Norfund will help providing much needed financing for SMEs  - with a loan structure that is adequate for the industry in Ghana. This will help them continuing their growth and adding jobs to the economy.

The bank also offers internet banking and has significant expansion potential within SME and retail banking to other regions in Ghana.
