Kalkbult is a 75 MWp greenfield solar project in the Northern Cape developed by Scatec Solar. The project became operational late 2013. Norfund owned 35% of the shares in the holding company with Scatec Solar (Scatec Solar 165 Pty Ltd), which owned 60% of the shares in the project company together with three local investors.
In September 2018, Norfund decided to exit the investments in Kalkbult, Linde & Dreunberg . Norfund's mandate is to support the building of sustainable businesses in developing countries and thereby contribute to economic and social development. Investments in clean energy is a priority sector. Today, these investments have reached a level where Norfund’s role is limited. As other investors were available, Norfund decided to exit and to search for new clean energy projects in the region. Sub Saharan Africa is and will continue to be a priority region for Norfund.
