Sir Fazle Hasan Abed was the founder of BRAC - one of the world’s largest NGOs. The institution contributes largely to international development, alleviation of poverty and empowering the poor.

Brac Bank Bangladesh is one of several viable institutions within Brac.  Norfund's equity investment in Brac Bank Bangladesh in 2010 was the first time an international investor participated in a bond issue in Bangladesh. The investment team in Norfund expresses great respect for the team at Brac and for the leadership of Sir Abed during this partnership.

Norfund has collaborated with Brac on different occasions . Sir Abed attended Norfund’s 10 year’s anniversary in Oslo in 2007. Norfund investment managers describe him as silent and very humble, and truly dedicated to the alleviation of poverty.

Words fall short of expressing the loss of Sir Fazle Hasan Abed. He will remain one of the pioneers within international development, financial inclusion and poverty alleviation.

- Tellef Thorleifsson, CEO Norfund

Sir Abed will remain one of the pioneers within the field, and Brac has reached and empowered a large number of unbanked people which were not covered by traditional banking in Bangladesh and overseas.
