Hidro Santa Cruz S.A. project is to develop a 5 MW run of the river hydro plant on the Canbalam River in Barillas, Guatemala. Total project costs are USD 12.5 million. The equity is owned by two Spanish companies, Ecoener (85%) and Hidralia (15%). Ecoener has ample experience in building and operating small hydros and will be the EPC contractor. Hidralia’s expertise is in engineering and consulting. This project was brought to Norfund by CIFI who is arranging the transaction. CIFI has already final IC approval to fund part of the transaction. They are flexible to Norfund requests on participation, and the recommendation is that Norfund and CIFI fund the debt and sub-debt portion in equal shares, so to be fully aligned.
