The investment forms part of a total investment of USD 30 million to establish an aseptic packaging production facility, with commercial commissioning targeted for late 2026.

The facility will be equipped with the latest generation of aseptic packaging technology, in line with international manufacturing standards. The new production line will introduce local manufacturing capacity for a critical packaging input to the UHT dairy, juice, flavoured beverage and liquid food sectors.

“We are pleased to support a company that is expanding local manufacturing capabilities and strengthening the broader food industry ecosystem. Increasing domestic production of aseptic packaging will enhance supply chain resilience and support the continued growth of East Africa’s food processing sector,”

Donald Muchiri Kariuki

Senior Investment Manager at Norfund.

Aseptic packaging enables products to be stored and distributed safely without refrigeration, extending shelf life and improving access to markets where cold chain infrastructure remains a constraint.  The project is expected to drive significant job creation, both direct and indirect, contributing to value addition within Kenya’s manufacturing sector. These jobs span employment at the factory itself and roles supported across the supply chain, from raw material procurement to logistics and distribution of finished products.

“This investment is closely aligned with Norfund’s mandate to create jobs and promote sustainable industrial development. Texplast has established a strong market position through consistent growth, innovation and regional expansion, and we are excited to support the company’s next stage of development,” says Kariuki.

“This is a significant milestone for Texplast and for the broader food and beverage industry in Africa. We are grateful for Norfund’s confidence in our business and remain focused on delivering a world-class facility that meets the needs of our customers across the region,” said Mihir Shah, CEO of Texplast Industries Ltd.

Founded in 2003, Texplast Industries Ltd. is one of East Africa’s leading packaging manufacturers, supplying a diverse range of customers across the food, beverage, agriculture, construction and consumer goods sectors throughout East and Central Africa. The company is also working to promote circularity in the packaging sector, operating a dedicated recycling division capable of processing waste into high-value raw materials to sustainably supplement its own manufacturing operations.
